Set free from words

Thursday 15 April, 2010

When you’re overweight, you hide. Hide from reality, cover up with a smile and lose yourself in food. But, last night, there was no hiding for the contestants...

Writing down the words they have carried with them for years, decades, was about exposing all the pain and the hurt they have bottled up inside. About bringing it out into the open and facing it.

Pathetic, ugly, blimp, obese, fat, overweight, pregnant, pretender: these are just some of the words that they have held onto, that have driven them deeper into themselves.

But seeing those words in black and white, they could overcome them. Punching, kicking and beating down those words down is the sum of all the work that they have put into themselves since this show started. To literally tear them up signifies their new beginning.

This is a moment these contestants will remember forever. It’s a turning point when they realise how truly different they are now.

They have rebuilt themselves, through training, through eating well and by doing the mental miles to get their heads in shape. They are finally free!

When the guys saw their dream outfits I was so nervous for them! Imagine, all that work and not fitting in? It could really mess them up at this point in the game.

Now, you may think I'm obsessed with clothes but stepping into a new outfit at the end of this journey is so symbolic. You are stepping into the new you. You can visualise your life ahead. These clothes represent happiness, family, love, life – everything.

When I came home from The Biggest Loser house, I went through my wardrobe and threw out anything that didn’t fit. I literally had two shirts and one pair of pants hanging there – the rest just hung off me! And these contestants will go home each a different person.

To see Shannon and Lisa in their wedding outfits was so, so emotional. Shannon’s even looked a little big on him. Lisa was totally overwhelmed and I think she’s made it to her goal.

My money is still on Lisa to win this game, but it’s clear that the other contestants are hot contenders.

It sounds as though the Commando has finally got inside Joe’s head in the desert too. And I think this will make him a dangerously strong in this final stretch.

Does the young man from Caboolture have what it takes?

Believe in yourself,
