I have to say that Biggest Loser challenges are much more enjoyable when you’re watching them from the comfort of your couch!
Last night’s challenge – probably best described as water torture – was interesting from a game perspective: Nathan and Andrew have cemented themselves as the most strategic players and, as is to be expected, tensions are starting to flare amongst the other couples.
Having to weigh your fellow contestants down is no easy task. A litre of water weighs roughly a kilo, so that was some serious weight the contestants were supporting. But Loser is a game and there are lessons to be learned with each and every challenge.
The key lesson for me last night was that of counterbalance. If you’re losing weight with a buddy, which I know a lot of you are, this is part of your duty to the other person – to act as a balancing force through the ups and downs. It’s also something you may need to reach out for. Did you hear Amanda and Jeda and Ben call out to their team mate, ‘balance me up!’? There may be similar times when you’re struggling and you need to shout out for support. Don't be afraid to do it – it's what keeps us in the 'game'.
From a training perspective, last night’s challenge also showed how water makes for a great workout. Sure, it was hard for the contestants to hold the water drums but did you see the effort their partners had to put in to wading through the water and trudging back with the filled pouches?
With temperatures set to soar around Australia this weekend (Melbourne, Adelaide, Canberra and parts of Sydney are expecting conditions in the 40’s) it’s wise to do your exercise in or near the water. For example:
If don’t have access to a pool and want to keep up your walks, head out early or late when the heat is less intense. To keep as cool as possible, wet a bandana, scarf or even a tea towel and tie it around your neck. You can leave a spare one in the fridge or freezer for when you get home. Ask around on the forums, too, as I'm sure other members have some great tips.
I hope you’ve enjoyed my blog over the past week. I’ll be back on Monday morning with a wrap up of Sunday night’s weigh-in which looks set to be spectacular! Don’t miss it at 6:30PM on TEN.

A highlight was definitely Shannan and Michelle’s night training session, which I’ve shared below. Towel-pulling looks like something fun I could do with my teenage son, and Shannan’s words to Amanda – “stop beating yourself up” – also struck a chord.
