The hot couple head home

Episode 8, 9 February 2009

Alison's Biggest Loser Blog: an insider's view of the Couples series

Last night I was sad to see Tania and Ramses head home.

But I guess I would have been sad whoever went home because in the early days of Loser, you still want to support and encourage each contestant. The game is not as intense as it will become in later weeks, and there’s still such a strong bond between you all. That’s why there are so many tears.

It saddens me that Tania and Ramses didn’t get the opportunity to be on the island for just a little longer. They both have a lot of weight to lose, and I feel they could have benefited from a couple of extra weeks of education.

But I have no doubt that the newlyweds will come back to Finale as the hot couple Tania promised. Tania’s farewell speech was a beautiful Loser moment: “[Our Biggest Loser journey] may end here… but it’s not going to end at home. And when we come back to Finale, we’re going to show everyone just what we were able to do at home and prove to everyone in Australia that can’t have the opportunity to actually be here what you can do if you put your head and your heart to it at home. Because anyone can do it and we’re going to prove that to everyone.”

It would have been hard for the contestants to hear these words of determination and resolve. Elimination is a bit like choosing between hot chips and potato chips – you don’t want to choose either one! But the game forces your hand and although around that table you have a heavy heart, once the tears have subsided there’s a feeling of elation that you survived, that you’ll live to see another week in the house.

Ajay’s final words were relevant for all of us: “Stay focused,” she said. “Work hard.”

That’s what I’ll be doing this week and what I want all of you to do at home. Stick with your program, use the online diary at The Biggest Loser Club, keep up your exercise and drop in and say hi on the forums.

And remember to tune in tonight at 7PM where a whole new Biggest Loser twist is about to take hold!
