Sparks fly as the mums go home

Alison's Biggest Loser Blog: an insider's view of the Couples series

Looks like Nathan and Andrew have met their match in Holly and Mel! While no-one likes an elimination, it was good to see that the Sisters weren’t too intimidated by the Brothers to cast their own vote. What an outburst by Nathan in the elimination room! Talk about fireworks!

But I should talk about the real fireworks, or rather the implosion that must have been felt by Jodi and Jeda when it was revealed that they were going home. My heart really goes out to those girls…

Jodi’s pain was palpable. She said, “I wish I had the confidence in myself that you guys think we have,” and I understood what she meant, because I got very good at putting on a happy, positive front and hiding the pain on the inside when I was overweight.

I think that’s why I’ve been in a bit of a rut since last Wednesday’s episode. Seeing that old footage of me at the beginning and middle of my journey brought back memories of the pain I was hiding on the inside. I was so very good at concealing it that even those closest to me had no idea.

My advice to Jodi and Jeda is that you have to stare that sort of pain down. You have to stamp your feet on the ground and scare if off as though it were a bush snake. You’ve got to pretend that you’re tougher than it, because even if you don’t believe that you are, it’s the secret to conquering it.

I know the young mums doubt their confidence to lose weight on the outside, but you only have to look to The Biggest Loser Club forums to see that there are plenty of other people just like them who are confronting that sort of pain and using it to turn their lives around.

When Jodi said, “It’s a game, but it’s still real lives,” she was right but, at the end of the day, one couple – either Jodi and Jeda or Meaghan and Julie – had to go home and, as in life, when your time’s up it’s up unfortunately.

And, although I'm sorry to see the young mums leave the competition, I am glad Meaghan and Julie have been given a second chance. I think Julie needs the support more than you know.

Be sure to tune in tonight at 7PM on TEN to watch the aftermath of Jodi and Jeda's departure. Looks like the fireworks don't stop for a while yet! But the Commando is back on the scene this week so I'm sure he'll sort them all out!
