Sharif and Teresa played the game well last night by taking temptation. Strategy has really come to the fore this week and, with at least one vote from the previous night’s unexpected elimination, the work mates realise that to get the best possible results, their best place is in the house for as long as possible.
Sharif was smart to start his post-temptation burn session straight away by jogging laps around the living room. This used to be my strategy on the few times I took temptation. But I didn’t just try to burn the extra calories I consumed for the game – I’d double them. So, if I ate 250 calories in temptation, I’d burn off 500. This is a strategy I still use whenever I overindulge – not only is it a disincentive for being tempted, it’s also a safety measure to ensure I keep my energy equation in check.
Cameron was a real standout for me last night – it’s great to see him evolving and growing throughout this game. When he sat in front of all that delicious Italian food and was asked if he saw anything that he liked, he replied, “I see everything here that I like.” LOL!
But the man is on a mission and was spot on when he said, “It’s easy to just eat that food.” The hard part is saying no. That’s what you’ve got to work on and practise every day, especially on the outside.
It’s easy for the contestants – they only take temptation once a week and, although they don’t know what food will be dangled in front of them, they have plenty of time to psyche themselves up and decide in advance whether they will or won’t be tempted.
You don’t have this luxury on the outside – while you can keep tempting foods out of the house or car, you can’t prevent being offered food that doesn’t fit within your program. All you can do is control your response to temptation. To quote Shannan, you've just got to “control the controllables”.
On another topic, wasn’t Bob a sweetie to grant the family visit he won by being The Biggest Loser of the week to Nathan? But I hope these don’t become a regular Loser event as I can’t help having a cry every time they happen!
It was a nice opportunity for Nathan and his family to reflect on the changes he’s already achieved in only a few weeks. Wasn’t his little girl adorable when she commented, “He’s running faster than he used to!” It was great to see Nathan passing on his new knowledge to his kids – his whole family will benefit from the journey let me tell you.
OK, so I can't wait for tonight's episode to find out more about this new ‘dark force’ trainer! Be sure to tune in at 7PM on TEN and check your inbox in the morning for my daily update.
