Suck it up!

Alison's Biggest Loser Blog: an insider's view of the Couples series

I said in yesterday’s blog that I’d have to see the 3000-calorie milkshake temptation to believe it and even now I’ve seen it, I still don’t believe it! Nathan going ‘all the way’ really does put new meaning on the word ‘extreme’.

Firstly, those milkshake glasses weren’t regular glasses – they were vases! Secondly, even the most experienced overeater would have found it difficult to consume so many calories in one sitting. For example, you could go into McDonald’s and order all of the naughtiest things on the menu – Big Mac, large fries, large Coke and a Sundae – and still only be 1400 calories worse for wear.

Which is why I’m surprised that no one threw up! I remember back to the pancake temptation that I participated in in Series 3: it was so long since I’d eaten rich food that I really couldn’t stomach it – someone had to get me a bucket!

On a serious note, I think the hardest thing with temptation – and I refer to temptation both in the house and on the real world outside – is knowing when to stop.

While Nathan is in a league of his own, the other contestants were more rational about how much to consume: Is it enough to win immunity? What’s it going to ‘cost’ in terms of training? These are the things you have to weigh up when you give in to any food temptation.

Sometimes knowing when to stop is not getting started in the first place. As Shannan often says, you need to ask whether you’re ready to play Russian roulette with your food. Thankfully, I’m at the place where I can have a treat responsibly, as I know many of you are too. But it’s taken a long time to get here and don’t underestimate the discipline required to, for example, have Tim Tams in the house and not lose yourself in the whole packet.

I’m looking forward to tonight’s episode to see how Michelle makes her team pay for playing temptation – it’s been a while since we’ve seen a good whipping in the gym! Be sure to tune in at 7PM on TEN and then check your inbox in the morning for my daily update.

Below I've shared a segment that made me smile – keep an eye out for the look on Sammy’s face when she hears Nathan slurping to the bottom of his milkshake. Her disbelief was the same as mine!
