Welcome back Red and Blue!

Alison's Biggest Loser Blog: an insider's view of the Couples series

I should have seen this coming… First there were couples, now there are two teams – Red and Blue. The ‘tablet of destiny’, as Nathan called the disc he chose on the Walk, has turned the game on its head again!

With the task of having to split up a couple and get them to select teams, Nathan chose Julie and Meaghan – Julie to lead the Blue team and Meaghan to lead the Reds.

Both women chose their teams thoughtfully and strategically but I have to say, what is it with my fellow sisters choosing all the guys before the girls? Sean, Andrew, Nathan, Sharif and Bob were all picked ahead of real contenders such as Teresa and Tiff!

If you didn’t see the episode, here’s how the teams panned out:

RED TEAM BLUE TEAM
Meaghan Julie
Nathan Sean
Sharif Andrew
Amanda Bob
Sammy Teresa
Cameron Tiffany

So now it’s brother against brother, work mate against work mate. The couples who have been split – Julie and Meaghan, Nathan and Andrew, Teresa and Sharif – are not at all happy about being split but I think it’s one of those bad things that will very soon become a very good thing.

It’s so easy to become comfortable when you’re in the house, especially if you have your parent/sibling/best friend with you. By being split up, the couples are going to be pushed way out of their comfort zone which, as I said after Monday night’s episode, is where you grow.

This new twist in the game is going to make everyone work harder in training, it’s going to make them more competitive. Sure it’s going to hurt, but it will also make many of the contestants lift their game.

Speaking of lifting their game, did you see Tiff get tough in the gym? Michelle was getting her team to use an interesting visualization technique where, in your mind, you line up a competitor and fight hard to beat them. Tiff was lining up Teresa and, with the focus and determination on her face, I’m glad she wasn't lining up me!

Tiff and the other contestants will need strategies like that to survive tonight’s endurance challenge. Be sure to tune in at 7PM on TEN and then check you inbox in the morning for my daily update.

Also check out Shannan's team's training session. They were doing 20-second high-intensity intervals and Sean reached top speed of 23kph on the treadmill. I loved seeing Shannan's reaction when he hopped on and gave the same speed a go – look out for it towards the end of the segment.
