There’s nothing worse than going into Elimination than going into Elimination two weeks in a row. It’s stressful and heartbreaking, especially for a close-knit team like the Reds.
I had predicted that Meaghan would be going home last night so was surprised that she, Cam and Sammy all voted for Nathan. I know he can be a little cocky, but he’s right when he says, “Any team would be weaker without me in it.” In fact, I second Sharif: the Reds have sent their strongest man home.
But something peculiar is going on… I could tell by the way Ajay was talking in the Elimination room. When you’re in the house, you hang off every word Ajay says in Elimination, Temptation or the Challenges trying to decode clues that will reveal the direction of the game. When a letter appears like it did in last night’s Elimination, it always means a twist!
A little twist that occurred for me on a personal level last night was realising how much I had in common with Nathan. I too worked in the professional care industry before Loser (I was a therapy coordinator for elderly people with dementia) and knew exactly what Nathan meant when he said: “I’ve spent 14 years helping others and not looking after myself.”
You don’t realise how much of yourself you give away in a job such as this, and then you go home to your family and give, give, give even more. Pretty soon there’s nothing left and you start to lose control of your emotions, of your eating, of yourself.
It’s interesting that so many of us carers end up struggling with our weight and neglecting ourselves – I never really made the connection until last night. That's why it's so essential to learn the art of balance. When you make your health and emotional wellbeing a priority and take some time to restore yourself, you can give so much more.
I hope Nathan has found that balance and that it serves him well on the outside.… but something tells me he may not be going home directly and that the Commando is involved! I wonder who Nathan will take with him? It doesn't seem fair that someone else's Loser journey will end too, but at least he's not going out alone.
Be sure to tune in tonight at 7PM on TEN and then check your inbox in the morning for my daily update.
