A weigh-in that surprises all

Episode 55, 5 April 2009

Alison's Biggest Loser Blog: an insider's view of the Couples series

What an unusual weigh-in! How extraordinary to have two of the giants of the game, Sean and Andrew, fall below the yellow line, while on Fitzroy Island the other two titans, Bob and Nathan, romped in with amazing results.

But before I go into detail, I just wanted to say a big congrats to Tiff for lasting over 2 hours 20 minutes on the spin bike to win the challenge and gain immunity. How’s that for a bit of girl power!

I love seeing the confidence that’s growing in Tiff as she discovers things within herself that she probably never knew were there before – it’s really quite beautiful to watch. She’s quietly and calmly becoming stronger and stronger and, with Teresa out of the game, she's definitely the fitness female contender. What impresses me most is that she’s been consistent with her weight loss, disciplined with her training and she plays the game with integrity which is something that an ex-Blue like me loves.

Another thing ex-Blues love is working out Commando style. Did you see that muddy obstacle course he put Bob and Nathan through? How I wish I could be on Fitzroy Island training with the Commando!

All the hard work seems to be paying off and, as I predicted last Sunday, Bob and Nathan came back with sensational scores this week – I think even the Commando would agree that they’ve earned some time off fishing (he-he!).

Nathan lost an amazing 5kg but got leap-frogged by Bob with an even more amazing 9kg loss – both numbers are incredibly impressive at this stage in the game. The boys’ results also go to show why you’ve got to stick with it during the bad weeks (last week Bob lost 1kg and Nathan 100g, and both were very disappointed). Bad weeks are the weeks where you train hard and eat well but don’t see the results. They occur in each and every weight-loss journey and the secret to getting over them is sticking with it – as long as you stay true and continue to control the controllables, eventually your hard work will show up on the scales.

I have also been meaning to mention how Bob blows the myth about what can be done at his stage in life. This man is in his 50s for goodness sake and there he was last night rappelling down a rope, crawling through the mud, traversing a cargo net! It just goes to show that age is no barrier to fitness or weight loss.

Another person defying the odds at the moment is Cameron – boy has he got it! Who would have thought Cam, who struggled so much mentally through the early part of this journey, would finally click and go on to be The Biggest Loser two weeks running. It’s also great to see the dramatic turnaround in Sammy – finally she has stopped hating herself at every opportunity and is starting to see the beauty within her that we already see…

Which leads me to the most dramatic part of the weigh-in: Sean and Andrew’s scores. While I commiserate with the boys for dropping below the yellow line both should be really proud of what they’ve accomplished – they’ve achieved exactly what they came to Came Biggest Loser to achieve.

They’re looking amazing and their comparatively small weight losses last night are simply a sign that they’re close to their goal weights. As many of you may have experienced, the less weight you have to lose the slower it comes off.

But that doesn’t mean that I’m happy about one of them heading home after tonight’s Elimination – who knows how the alliance will vote. Be sure to tune in at 7PM on TEN and then check your inbox in the morning for my daily update.
