Alison's Biggest Loser Blog: an insider's view of the Couples series

Oh, I’m so frustrated! Right from the start of last night’s show I wanted to know why some of the eliminated contestants weren’t training? Why were they sitting on the couch complaining?

This is a competition, people: if you want a shot at the wildcard weigh-in you have to be working like you’re one of the Final Four.

If, like Jodie, I had won a white t-shirt I’d be in the gym at every available moment – I’d be doing everything possible to secure my place at Finale. Michelle was right to dress her down: “Are you for real?” she asked when Jodie confessed to not training that morning. Jodie, along with any of the eliminated contestants who hope to earn or win a white t-shirt, should be making every second count. With an attitude like “oh, but I trained last night,” good luck!

It’s a big difference to the attitude of the true contenders such as Sharif, Teresa and Sean. Their performance in the weight challenge was a testament to discipline, focus, strategy and strength in both body and mind. Teresa was a great friend for pushing Sharif to the limit, making him not just smash but obliterate the weight challenge record of 100kg which Cosi established last year.

Being a stickler for facts, I want to point out that relative to body weight the mighty Teresa actually held slightly more than Sharif: her 90kg load was 110% of her body weight as opposed to 140kg being 108.4% of Sharif’s body weight. Either way, Sharif won fair and square – he’s the tough cookie Shannan said he was and truly deserves his white t-shirt – but I just thought all the sisters out there might appreciate that fact!

I was sorry to see Amanda leave the competition once and for all due to injury last night, and it’s a shame that Tanya was the first to drop her bar in the weight challenge, earning instant elimination. Both Tanya and Ramses are a long way behind the rest of the competition and could have benefited from a week in the house to learn from the masters and get their focus back.

It just goes to show how easily distracted you can get on the outside and highlights how people such as Stewart, who has come leaps and bounds at home, ‘get it’ more than some of the others.

It will be interesting to see who gets it in tonight’s ball and chain challenge – the eliminated contestants are going to have to combine brain with brawn to win a coveted white t-shirt. Be sure to tune in at 7PM on TEN for all the details.
