The Biggest Loser Club Second Chance team just missed out on a spot on the life-changing reality show The Biggest Loser. However, they have quickly found that you don’t need to be on TV to change your life — you just need a second chance.
The team members took up the opportunity to lose weight using The Biggest Loser Club Meal Replacement Program and potentially win $10,000! On top of this they need to lose 20% of their combined body weight in order to win a sought-after ticket to The Biggest Loser Finale in April 2009.
At the first weigh-in the team lost a combined weight of 85.6kg, with individuals losing between 2.3kg and 7.1kg.
Just like on the show, the Second Chance contestants are competing in couples, but they’ve found the support and encouragement of the entire team, via email and phone-calls, has made their first steps on the journey to a new life even easier.
The individual Biggest Loser was Ben, with that amazing 7.1kg loss. Blake was right behind him, shedding 6.4kg, pushing himself and his fiancée Samantha into the number one position on the leaderboard for the first Second Chance weigh-in.
Biggest Loser Couple
Fiancés: Blake and Samantha
Blake and Samantha overcame a few challenges to become our first weigh-in winners. The couple, who met through a mutual friend four years ago, are looking to start a family, and have embraced the Second Chance Challenge in a bid to get fit for themselves and their babies to come.
A healthy future and family together is a constant motivation for them both. During workouts Samantha says she keeps herself going with thoughts like ‘after this workout I’ll be one or two hours closer to getting married and having kids’.
Sam also uses the idea of her dream wedding to boost her motivation. “Each time I push through and make myself go to the gym, I reward myself by looking at wedding magazines and starting to plan Blake’s and my wedding,” she says.
Her fiancé Blake battled bouts of self-doubt in the first week but still managed to post a fantastic loss of 6.4kg.
He said the food was one of the upsides to the Program. “I’ve had no trouble with the Meal Replacement Shakes, Soups and Bars — they’re quite tasty and they fill me up. They’re also convenient. They fit in nicely with my busy work schedule.”
However, the downsides for Blake included fitting exercise into his day. “On top of the large amount of physical labour that I do during work, it’s been hard to push myself to go to the gym, but I always feel so much better after each exercise session.”
Biggest Loser
Friends: Ben and Kate
Like all of the contestants Ben had a few temptations to overcome. His first major test was a party. “Normally I’d be in the top 10 most drunk at a party,” he says. “So to go to the party and only drink water was a big step in the right direction, and it was only the second day of the Challenge! I had a few dances and a lot of fun though.”
Ben’s friend and Challenge partner, Kate, also had a great start to the Second Chance Challenge losing 3.3kg. “I have to say that The Biggest Loser Club Meal Replacement Program has been fantastic. The Shakes, Soups and Bars taste great and I like the fact that you also get to eat real, tasty, healthy food and lots of it,” she says.
