Weigh-in 2

No sign of a slow down

The Biggest Loser Club Second Chance Team - the best of the rest!

There was little evidence of a slow-down for The Biggest Loser Club Second Chance team.

The 10 secret couples, losing weight at home with the help of The Biggest Loser Club Meal Replacement Program, followed up last weigh-ins combined loss of 85.6kg with another great loss of 65.7kg.

The contestants are well on their way to achieving their goal of losing almost 500kg in time for their reveal on The Biggest Loser Finale.

Biggest Loser Couple

Brothers: Chris and Michael

As well as being the Biggest Loser couple with a combined loss of 10.4kg, Chris also topped the individual rankings, posting a 7.9kg loss, which was an impressive 5.5% of his body weight.

Chris gave up cigarettes on the same day as starting the Second Chance Challenge, which for some people would mean double the trouble, but Chris has found that his clearer lungs have boosted his weight-loss efforts and given him a new enjoyment of exercise.

“The last week has been really fun,” he says. “My breathing is so much better and my recovery and stamina are awesome — well, compared to what they were.”

As well as exercise, Chris credits his weight-loss success to a new appreciation of water. “It’s been my saviour. I’ve gone from drinking whatever and whenever, to drinking water like it's going out of fashion!”

Chris’s brother Michael has also been surprised by his own new attitude to exercise. “As much as I thought it would never happen, I’m enjoying the exercise and sometimes I even look forward to it,” he says.

For Michael, a highlight this week was the noticeable boost in his fitness. “It is so good to finish my workout and still have some energy left to put into other things,” he says.

Measuring up

For some contestants, the changes in their bodies were more encouraging than the changes on the scales.

Tax officer and part-time opera singer Jodie Curran says the best moment of the week was being measured by her trainer, who took measurements from her neck, waist, hips, chest, thighs, calves, forearms and upper arms.

“I’ve already lost a staggering 58.5cm. I can hardly believe it!” she says. “Unfortunately, weigh-in was a little disappointing — I lost 1.5kg. I know it’s a loss and any loss is good, but I was just hoping for more. At least the centimetre loss is something to be excited about!"

Account executive Kate Smith has also seen over 20cm drop from her measurements. “I am pretty happy with that,” she says.

Back on track

The week wasn’t as easy for all members of the Second Chance team. Donna-Louise says she ‘fell off the wagon’ with a couple of glasses of wine. However the South Australian lending officer got back on the wagon the next morning and slipped some more exercise into her day.

School teacher Kate Ramsden also took some steps off track while relaxing on a boat with friends, but following the advice of The Biggest Loser Club Meal Replacement Program she didn’t let those stray steps stop her journey altogether. “It didn't derail me like it would have done in the past,” she says. “It’s one of the great things about my shift in attitude.”
