Over the past couple of months the Second Chance team have shed a massive 342kg with the help of The Biggest Loser Club Meal Replacement Program. At this halfway point, the couples taking part in the Second Chance Challenge met up in Sydney's Centennial Park for a catch-up and they couldn't believe the change they saw in each other.
Thirty-four-year-old Ben Powell says, “It was incredibly rewarding to see the changes in everyone. They all look fantastic and we now share a new bond. It’s proof that with exercise and the Meal Replacement Program you really can achieve results.”
However it was Ben’s own friend and Challenge partner Kate Smith, who lives in another state and hadn’t seen Ben since the start of the Challenge, who was left stunned. “I noticed a tall, thin handsome guy and my jaw hit the ground when I saw it was Benny! He looks fantastic!”
In between being filmed and photographed for some upcoming segments on The Biggest Loser, the team got the opportunity to meet former Biggest Loser finalist and Meal Replacement ambassadors Alison Braun and Sam Rouen.
Karina Vagg says, “Alison was amazingly honest and spoke some home truths. She talked about sacrifices and that word has been ringing in my ears ever since.”
Meeting up with his team mates left Alex Beggs more motivated than ever. He says, "The whole day re-inspired me all over again and I am now more determined than ever. The leaders better watch out as I can feel a big shake-up happening!"
As the heaviest male in the Second Chance Challenge team, Jamie Smith took comfort in seeing where his lighter team mates were now at. He says, "I am now at the weight of some of the boys at the start, so to see their progress and know that is my future too is a good reminder of what is to come with some hard work and committment."
Throughout the day the contestants were actively running around the park and playing ball, which was proof of changes in their lifestyle and energy levels since starting this Challenge. Even Jodie Curran admits, "I had a lovely time playing ball with the boys, which is something I wouldn't have dreamed of doing a couple of months ago."
Despite all becoming close friends, nobody’s prepared to let anyone stand in their way of the Second Chance Biggest Loser title, not to mention the $10,000 prize. This week's special leaderboard revealed that Ben and Kate are in winning position with a combined weight loss of 47.5kg (17.1% of their body weight), while brothers Chris and Michael are less than a percentage point behind.
