With lots of weight to lose plus determination to spare, Janet Currell was a woman on a mission! Having followed her own eating/exercise program for 12 months (she had already lost over 20kg), hitting a weight-loss plateau was her trigger to try something new; enter The Biggest Loser Club and the amazing shrinking woman!
We caught up with Janet to find out just how she did it.
Question: What are your favourite Biggest Loser Club features?
Janet: “The online diary was great because I was able to track what I had eaten and what exercise I had done for the day (and even the week), and it really kept me honest. I couldn’t cheat as I had to weigh in weekly and this made me determined to lose the kilos; I knew other people (those behind The Club) would know about it! The meal and exercise plans were also great. In fact, there’s nothing that I disliked about The Club.”
Question: How did you fit in exercise?
Janet: “Fitting exercise into my life wasn’t that tricky; instead of watching TV or playing on the computer, I exercised – not that I was watching TV or playing on the computer at 5.30am! However, I would get up around this time on Mondays to Fridays and walk the dog for 50 minutes before getting ready for work. I still walk at lunch time three days a week for 50 to 55 minutes and in the evening, I exercise between 30 and 60 minutes, depending on what type if exercise I do.

Big clothes be gone!
Question: What do you put your success down to?
Janet: “Definitely, determination – that’s what success is all about! I’d say that the hardest part was getting my mind in the right place to start The Biggest Loser program and once on it, really sticking to it, every step of the way. Having been on the program for a little while, it becomes easier, a way of life, really.”
Question: Club members want to know: what are your top tips?
Janet: “Be strong and be honest. You need to keep your mind tough and learn to reject the temptations that come your way during your weight-loss journey. You won’t see positive results if you cheat or always take the easy way out or if you’re not honest with your diary.
“So, stick with it. There may be days or even weeks when you might feel a lot hungrier. If you blow your calorie target, just start again the next day. If you stick with a calorie controlled diet and exercise program you will see positive results. The important thing to do, though, is to enjoy the journey. Expect a lot of ups and downs along the way and know that there is no quick fix to losing weight; you have to be patient and have faith that it will work – and it will!”
Question: Any final thoughts or comments?
Janet: “I just hope my story inspires someone else out there to try The Biggest Loser Club so they can improve their health and lifestyle and experience just how great it feels to have more energy and not feel tired for most of the day, every day. I never imagined how well I could feel until I experienced it for myself! It doesn’t matter how long your weight-loss journey takes; as long as you are doing the right thing, you will get there in the end if you want to. It’s all about forming good habits and, as you know, habits are so hard to break!
“I’ve now lost the last 13 kilos that I wanted to lose (overall, I’ve lost is 37.8kg). I used to weigh 98.5kg and now I weigh 60.7kg… thank you Biggest Loser Club!”
