Sheridan: back in the dating ‘game’

Series 3 stunner shares her quest for love

Gorgeous go-getter Sheridan Wright had lots of reasons to shed the excess weight and get healthy during her time on the 2008 series of The Biggest Loser; it wasn’t just about finding romance.

Yet, her much publicised relationship with fellow housemate, Michael, taught her a great deal. Sheridan says, “It threw me in the deep end of the dating world which is a scary place. But I learned quickly that if you get knocked down, you simply have to get up again!”

“The last few months have been full of highs and lows; it’s been a crash course, really. All those years I missed out relationship-wise means that I’m really starting from scratch. And, while people around my age (27) are settling down, I am still figuring things out. For example, that dating is a game and to be successful, you need balance; it’s about being honest, open and ‘available’ but it is also important to protect yourself and be a little elusive, too.”

Sheridan’s newly acquired body shape has meant getting used to a lot more male attention, something she found difficult to cope with at first. But, getting losing weight has brought a new found confidence, too. “After The Biggest Loser Finale in April, I noticed that people interacted with me differently. It happened so fast, though, that I kept waiting for the ‘punch-line’... I kept waiting to be the butt of their jokes. Now that I know that people aren’t laughing at me, I love all the attention – I feel like a kid in a candy store!”

And, while Sheridan describes her battle with her weight as being a constant one, she now feels she has the skills to tackle it. She started using The Biggest Loser Club, an online weight-loss and support website, during her time in The Biggest Loser house. The website’s much-loved food and exercise diary has helped her understand her body better. Sheridan explains, “My body and my weight seem to be very sensitive to alcohol; I recently gained several kilos in 10 days from drinking the same amounts as my friends and it took a whole month of hard work to lose it. The Biggest Loser Club diary really helped me get back on track!”

To keep fit and feel good, Sheridan trains for six hours each week, and she shakes up her exercise routine often. Having recently applied to join the Melbourne Women’s Community Circus, she’s looking forward to learning hula hooping, trapeze skills, stilt walking and acrobatics; creative fun that’s a really good workout and a reflection of the new life direction that Sheridan is enjoying, but still getting used to!
