The 'Fighting Fit Nurses' lost 94.9kg

They proved that working together works better

Twelve weeks ago 25 teams decided to lose weight at work with the help of The Biggest Loser Club Corporate Challenge. Members formed teams with their colleagues so they could support each other and together followed The Club's program to lose a combined total of 1050kg!

However, it was the seven Fighting Fit Nurses from Toronto in NSW that stole the weight-loss crown, losing an impressive 14.2% of their starting weight, totalling 94.9kg.

Twenty-nine-year-old Hayley Puckeridge spotted the Corporate Challenge online and got her team of seven nurses in place. Hayley reveals, "My team mates weren't keen on the idea at first, so it took a little persuading, but we all knew we just had to take that first step."

Although the competition was against other Corporate Challenge teams, Hayley admits that it became quite competitive between her own team as well. "There was definitely a bit of healthy competition amongst the team which kept us all motivated. We also used to put up our team analysis each week so our other colleagues could see where we were at, which definitely gave it even more of a competitive edge."

Winning streak

After 12 weeks of following The Biggest Loser Club exercise programs, menu plans and using the online diary, the results paid off. Hayley reveals, “I was so happy when I heard that we were the winning team! I immediately called all the girls and they were overjoyed!

"Trying to lose weight with the support of a team and also The Club makes all the difference. I have tried so many different ways to lose weight and this is the only thing that has worked for me."

No pleasure without pain

As the winners, the Fighting Fit Nurses were awarded a special training session with The Biggest Loser's no-nonsense Commando, Steve Willis, at CrossFit Newcastle.

Hayley says, “Working out with the Commando was great fun, but very painful! The first thing he said when he stepped out of the Hummer was, ‘OK, drop down and give me 15 burpies’. We gave it our best shot and all pulled through. He wasn’t at all judgemental, which put us all at ease." Despite feeling the burn, Hayley admits, "I would do it again in a heartbeat!”

Feeling success

Two of the seven Fighting Fit Nurses reached their goal weight during the Challenge; however for Hayley the journey continues. “I have lost 24kg in the past 12 weeks, but I still have a long way to go. Motivation in the group has naturally dwindled since the competition finished, however I am still going strong and intend to reach my healthy weight with the help of The Biggest Loser Club. I am already so much more comfortable in my skin and I can’t ever imagine going back there now. It is only forward for me.”

Trish Stow, 29 years old, was one of the Fighting Fit Nurses that did reach her goal weight. Trish explains, "Once I reached my target weight I was on such a roll that I just kept going, stuck to my program rigidly and lost another 5kg." Now weighing in at a slender 57kg, Trish says she feels so much more confident and loves being able to wear nice clothes.

Since starting the Corporate Challenge Trish has gained a love of exercise and has no plans to sit still now it has finished. "I have bought my own purple dumbbells and a heart rate monitor. I loved exercising before meeting the Commando, but now I am even more driven to keep fit and healthy. I want to thank The Club for all their support and also the Commando for an awesome training session. I am overjoyed to have reached my goal weight and beyond."
